For locations in Springfield, Jefferson City, or the Metro East, response times vary by distance. A dead dock leveler during peak shipping hours warrants a same-day dispatch.

A new edge-of-dock leveler runs $2,000 to $4,000 installed. Pit-style hydraulic dock levelers typically cost $8,000 to $15,000 installed, depending on capacity, size, and pit condition. Mechanical levelers fall in the $4,000 to $8,000 range. Repair costs depend on what failed – a hydraulic pump replacement is a different job than a full deck plate swap. We provide an upfront quote before starting any work.

Hydraulic levelers use a pump and cylinders for push-button operation. They're smoother, faster, and better suited for high-traffic docks (40+ loads per day). Mechanical levelers use springs and a pull-chain release. They cost less upfront but require more physical effort to operate and wear faster under heavy use. Most facilities building new docks choose hydraulic.

Semi-annually for standard commercial docks. Quarterly for high-volume distribution centers running more than 50 loads per day per position. Monthly checks are worth considering for levelers older than 10 years on busy docks. Regular inspection catches lip hinge wear, hydraulic leaks, and spring fatigue before they cause a dock shutdown.

An edge-of-dock leveler mounts to the face of the dock wall with no pit required. It handles a height difference of about 3 inches above or below dock level. Edge-of-dock levelers work well for facilities that receive trucks at a consistent bed height, have a lower volume of dock traffic, or want to add leveling capability without cutting a pit into the concrete. They install in about half a day.

Most dock levelers last 10 to 20 years with proper maintenance. The actual lifespan depends on traffic volume, load weights, how well the leveler has been maintained, and the environment. A hydraulic leveler handling 30 loads per day with semi-annual maintenance will outlast the same model running 80 loads per day with no upkeep.

A safety leg (also called a maintenance strut) is a metal prop that locks the leveler platform in the raised position during maintenance or when someone works below the deck. It prevents the platform from dropping if the hydraulic system or spring mechanism fails while a technician is underneath. Kodiak tests safety legs on every service call.

Yes. We offer scheduled maintenance programs for dock levelers – semi-annual for standard facilities, quarterly for high-volume operations. Each visit includes hydraulic system checks, spring inspection, lip hinge and plate assessment, safety leg testing, deck plate condition review, and full stroke testing. Maintenance contracts reduce emergency calls and extend the working life of the equipment.
